Encouragement for the Climb

For so long,

you were climbing uphill

in suffocating darkness.

Stumbling at every step.

Cold. Wet. Wounded.

At times the pain

was almost too much to bear.

Yet you kept going.

Occasionally there'd be flickers of light.

But they were quickly extinguished,

by lurking shadows.

And the darkness became

all consuming,

once again.

Scared and defeated,

but determined,

You kept trudging along.

Picking yourself up

after every fall.

You kept pushing onwards.

Trusted souls assured you

this journey was worth it.

They believed in you,

when you'd lost faith in yourself.

So no matter how treacherous

the climb got,

You kept going.

One small step at a time.

Seeking refuge as needed.

Then one day you paused to look back

and realized the clouds had parted,

making way for the sun!

And when you turn

to feel the warmth on your face,

you catch a glimpse down.

Down?

Down!

Startled,

You lose your breath

at how far you've come.

It seems impossible.

With all the stumbles,

storms,

and set backs

that you've managed to make it,

closer to the summit

than you've ever been before.

You pause

Survey your surroundings.

You collapse to your knees,

overwhelmed,

by the majestic beauty of it all.

And the great distance you've traveled.

Little by little.

When you finally allow yourself to rest

You suddenly notice

The air is fresher.

Your mind seems clearer.

Your soul feels at peace.

Sitting in stillness

You reflect on the

lessons and skills

learned along the way.

Confident they will help you conquer

the once insurmountable peak.

An intense sense of relief and pride

energizes you.

So you summon your strength.

for the rest of this journey

Knowing it's not a matter of if,

but when,

you will summit.

And that day is now far closer

than you ever imagined.
